I’m currently writing my dissertation, Toward a Democratic Theory of Representation: Political Responsibility in Global Politics.
My research focuses on the contexts of representation. I’m in interested in the conceptual development of political representation as it came to be associated with sovereignty and elections in liberal-democracies. The limits of this association are evident in global politics, particularly with the emergence of nongovernmental organizations. The political activity of these organizations forces a rethinking of representation that takes seriously the democratic potential in an intersubjective representative relationship.
Interests, future projects and papers include (1) Conceptual relationship between representation and resistance; (2) 20th century articulations of political responsibility (Camus and Niebuhr among them); and (3) A consideration of the practices of utopia.
